Well, after spending all day uninstalling and reinstalling the printer several different ways, including connecting the printer via USB cable and installing the drivers supplied on the original CD I managed to get it to print in this way.
However, connecting the printer back on the network I still couldn't get it to work. I got to a point where I could not even connect with the printer using the Windows File explorer.
