Cannot view workgroup windows xp

I did install a network messaging program called Lantouch. It was at this time I noticed the problem. I have tried swithching off the firewall - no effect. JohnWill Retired Moderator. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

TerryNet Terry. Joined Mar 23, Messages 81, What about the pings? Is that the working or non-working PC? If that was the only computer on the network it should have been the Master Browser. I have looked at the master browser as suggested and it is set to automatic. If I manually start it, it comes on and stops, with a message that it will stop if there is no work to do. Actually I suggested that you look at the Computer Browser service. I assume that's what you mean, but want to make sure.

So, something is messed up with the Computer Browser service, but I don't know what. My suspicion is a non-Windows firewall; maybe one that you uninstalled but didn't go away completely. Sorry, I did mean computer browser. I have just checked again and it is started.

Still cannot see network places or have permission to view workgroup computers. I will have a look at firewall situation. Thanks Brian. I do not have the same User Account set up on all three machines.

However, this can't be the issue because the problem happens when I click on the Workgroup, before the Server name is even displayed. Furthermore, each of these two XP clients have successfully connected with their existing User Accounts at times.

I have tried running the Network Setup Wizzard on all four machines, with no effect. I've tried many other things, most of which I don't remember any more. I am at my wits' end. Please help. According to the documentation it defaults to 0, which is what we'd want. However, I added it to all computers and left it set at 0 and restarted the computers. The Node Type still says "Unknown". The ""Network Location Cannot be Reached" when accessing shares" article is about Windows Server and none of the symptoms mentioned pertain to this situation.

The "Advanced network adapter troubleshooting for Windows workstations" is about hardware troubleshooting. I think this is unlikely to be an issue because the computer has no trouble accessing the internet, which wouldn't be possible if the network adapter weren't working. After re-booting, the PC that was having trouble can now access the workgroup. All the other PCs still can too haven't tried restarting everybody again. I can't thank you enough! Ive Continued to monkey with it, and discovered something.

Don't know if this helps or not, but i thought id post it. I didnt at first, but have since and it still has the same issues. It just seems like it "forgets" what i just had it do. Here, i have a Screenshot for you. In the "My Network Places" you can see just 2 things there.

I used to be able to see everyone.
